I love a great world with relatable characters who seem realistic, even if they are fantastical.

Wintergirls - Laurie Halse Anderson It took me a long while to finish this. The beginning (and the middle) dragged and dragged and nothing was relatable because of the "poetic misery". The plot picked up toward the end and finally sucked me in, opened up the characters and made the story more real despite everything. So while it seemed like a useless read in the beginning, I don't regret sticking with it. A good read, if not a great one.
